Linette Maritz has been fortunate enough to turn her hobby into a business. She works best when she can tap into her creative side. After qualifying as a commercial demonstrator, she completed a five-year stint as Elna’s regional training manager Western Cape. She left them to start her own Needlework and Craft School where she was involved in hands-on teaching for 10 years.

As director of Sew Easy Needlework and Craft Schools she founded 15 schools throughout South Africa within five years. She currently heads up Wilson & Maclagan Wholesalers, importers of needlework and craft products supplied to the retail trade throughout South Africa and Namibia.

Katherine Megaw (B.Sc Diet (Hons), Dip Paed diet) graduated as a clinical dietician from the University of Natal. She specialized in paediatric dietetics through the Johns Hopkins Institute, completed a first level certificate in breast-feeding consultancy through the Breastfeeding Association of South Africa and a diploma course in exercise science, specializing in pregnant women and children.

Over the past nine years she has worked in private practice with parents and children with a variety of feeding difficulties, as well as helping new moms navigate through the wealth of information available on baby feeding. Katherine has been a regular speaker at the Baby Sense seminars and frequently talks at events on child and infant nutrition. She has lectured to post graduate students on feeding babies with special needs and written articles for local and international magazines and journals. Katherine is married with three children and lives in the beautiful city of Cape Town.

A keen traveller who wanted to see the world ever since she can remember, she left for London shortly after her African adventure. Three years working and travelling in Europe taught her to become self-sufficient and fix whatever needed fixing. After working as a freelance book designer in Cape Town for many years, she finally joined the family business and currently heads up their satellite office in Johannesburg.

She is an accomplished artist, having taught batik for many years in Canada, Hong Kong and Wales. She developed a fascination for decorative knots whilst living in Wales and later in Hong Kong.

Her jewellery now incorporates knots from all over the world and from all periods of history, and she complements the knots with the unusual and exotic beads she has collected on her travels.

She and her husband now live in Wales very close to their daughter and grandchildren. She occasionally teaches and continues to make original jewellery and wearable art using knots and macramé.
