For a publisher used to styling craft books – find good props, an interesting background, place item where you want it and the photographer does the rest – doing a week of shooting with 3 to 7-year olds has been a challenge of note!

We had many magic moments so far, toddler wisdom in hilarious expressions and some completely exhausting situations. Like pic 32: child feeding dog. It sounds simple, doesn’t it? Especially with a dog that’s really good with people and a child that’s really good with animals. Not this time. Not with an audience of publisher, author, prop master, model’s mother, photographer and dog coach all shouting instructions at the same time!

When Penny was willing and ready, James wasn’t, and when James was willing and ready, Penny wasn’t. Talk about too many cooks spoiling the broth! Anyway – eventually our nifty-fingered photographer caught the right moment. Penny and James were both beaming and blissfully happy (maybe they appreciated the calm that descended). But the adults were finished! The adventure continues ...
