What was your favourite book as a child?
I was a voracious reader but certainly one of my top favourites was Shadow the Sheepdog by dear old Enid Blyton.

What was the first book you had published?
I had edited several (when working in England) but the first with my name as author was They Made This Land (published by Ad Donker in 1981) which contained brief biographies of 86 South African historical characters.

What’s your favourite genre of books to read?
I am still omnivorous as a reader, but I very much enjoy a good historical novel.

Do you have a favourite author?
Several! Rosemary Sutcliff, Katherine Paterson, Gerald Durrell, Rudyard Kipling …

If you could only save one book from a fire, what which one would it be?
Kim by Rudyard Kipling.

What do you like best about what you do?
Every day I am creating something – putting into the world something that wasn’t there before.
