Author interview: Monean Winterbach

Monean has a family, a busy PR career and a Craft Club to manage, so a daily planner is a must in her life. But heaven forbid you’ll find a boring one on her desk …

She took some time out of her hectic schedule (and in between marketing her gorgeous new diary) to answer some of our questions.

What is your day job?
I am a PR Consultant and the owner of Soul Sisters PR & Events (which includes Soul Sisters Craft Club).

How did you first become interested in crafts?
Although I grew up in a home where my mom tried most crafts know to man, my real interest only started when some of my first PR clients that I represented were involved in the craft industry. As I got more involved in the various aspects of crafting, the passion and creativity that is part of this vibrant industry got me hooked.

What craft do you specialise in, or are you a multi-crafter - or other … ?
My ‘craft’ is organising (hence the daily planner LOL). I like to bring crafters together and to create opportunities for experts in the various crafts to share their passion and knowledge with others. That is why Soul Sisters Craft Club was established a few years ago. I like various crafts, but I don’t think they way I do them constitutes ‘crafting’, more just playing around!

What other hobbies do you have?
I looove reading (when there is time).

What is the most interesting crafted object you have ever seen?
I admire the skill behind doing a mosaic mural. One of the mosaic teachers that is a regular guest at Soul Sisters, once made a tree from mirrored tiles against a bathroom wall. It was spectacular and one day (when I have a big enough bathroom wall, I also want one.

Do you like to travel? What is your favourite destination?
I am fascinated by cultures that are completely different to what I am used to. Although I’ve visited the Eastern countries a few times, my favourite destination is France. I think I might have been French in a previous lifetime…
