Di and Hazel to teach in Kiev

Hazel Blomkamp and Di van Niekerk will travel to Kiev in October 2012 to attend and give workshops at the V1 Masters' Golden Hands International Exhibition and Fair.

These Exhibitons take place twice a year and each time produce a vivid impression upon both visitors and participants. The number of foreign guests to the Show keeps growing as Masters, Designers and Artists from both Europe and Russia attend the event.

Hazel Blomkamp will teach two workshops.

Midnight Miniature

A miniature of the design featured on the cover of Hazel’s book ‘Crewel Twists’, this design is intended to teach participants the joy of using beads in crewel embroidery.  Measuring 65 x 75 mm, it is worked on black dupion silk with DMC stranded cotton, Madeira metallic thread and Miyuki beads. Along with a variety of crewel stitches the workshop will cover bead embroidery stitches and the use of metallic thread.  Participants will be instructed on a separate sampler and tuition will cover all the techniques that they will need to complete the design once they leave. This workshop is for all skill levels.  The kit contains everything that the participants will need to complete the project, as well as a hand-made greetings card in which to mount the finished article, if they so wis

Miniature Jacobean Motif
a beautiful example of jacobean embroidery

Done with a combination of DMC tatting threads, DMC stranded cottons and Madeira Metallic threads, this design covers a number of crewel stitches and techniques along with some interesting weaving ideas. Worked on taffeta, it measures 95 x 45 mm and it is ideal for all embroiderers who would like to either learn Jacobean Embroidery or try some techniques to give their embroidery a new twist.  Participants will be instructed on a separate sampler and tuition will cover all the techniques that they will need to complete the design once they leave. This workshop is for all skill levels.  The kit contains everything that the participants will need to complete the project, as well as a hand-made greetings card in which to mount the finished article if they so wish.
