Frankfurt Feedback

The Frankfurt Book Fair has come and gone and team Metz Press had many exciting and fruitful meetings.

We hope to finalise co-production and licensing deals with publishers from several territories within the next few weeks, and preparation for next year’s Book Event of the Year will probably start shortly after. Statistics can be boring, but they do paint a picture of the scale of things at Frankfurt. This year about 7 300 exhibitors from approximately 100 countries had stands. The Fair and its 3 400 events attracted 281 753 visitors. A brisk walk from the main entrance to our stand in Hall 8 took 20 minutes!

We visit the Fair not only to sell rights and co-editions, but also to meet other players in the book industry, to look at new business models and trends, and to observe international examples of best practice. With so much to learn and experience, it is understandable that the Frankfurt experience is one of both agony and ecstasy. We always return completely exhausted but also energized and inspired.
Among the celebrities that attended this year were Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose autobiography was launched at the Fair, well-known British author Ken Follet, and, of course, E. L. James in shades of grey.

Books make the world go round!
